Calebs Chapter review

In my group (group 1) , we spoke and presented about intercultural communications. As a group we each had 3 slides to do and presented accordingly . That was chapter 3. I really enjoyed how everyone gave there presentations . Everyone was able to speak upon the power point but also wasn’t word for word what was on the power point. It was refreshing because they didn’t sound like robots. I wish I would have included a video myself because everyone else who included a videos added to the presentation so much more. We live in a very technological world that allows people to have this type of access to videos. In this chapter we discussed , intercultural communications , which talks about different type of cultures and there views and ideas . One of the first topics we discussed was how your background can affect your perspective and viewing of things . An example I see in my own personal life is living in Miami with mostly Cubans including myself . There perspectives are changed from here to Cuba based on many different factors. You go from one system that is communism in Cuba to freedom in the United States is a huge cultural shock . I also wasn’t very intrigued when they spoke upon religion as I was born and raised , however no longer a Jehovah Witness . I do like how there was no negative backlash to any religion as I also believe everyone should have the right to choose what religion they would like to be without having any backlash . These different backgrounds are so interesting to talk about how so many different people have so many different perspectives on just anything because of so many different things in there life . Religion and Ethnicity play a huge part in who you are and who you become. One thing I loved learning about in this topic was about social groups . How support groups are there for each other . Examples would be Aa meetings who are recovering drug addicts or alcoholics or whatever  you have suffered from in your life , people are there to listen and voice there opinions in open space . There allowed to be heard and share familiar experiences to each other . An example of a social group would be friendships , people who care for each other . 

For this project I wish I would have paid more attention into what I was doing . I did pay attention but I wish I read more into the information I was going to present because I think it would have given me a more clear idea of what I was presenting . I also really loved listening to others present but I wish I would have taken notes as they presented because it would have made learning and studying a lot more easy. I wish I could have taken more time to read everything through and take in the information I was reading . Don’t get me wrong I paid attention and understood but I wish I would have put more effort. I did really enjoy how well everyone was elaborating there perspectives and everyone really did put in effort into there presentations. This is the first time in my whole life where everyone in the group did the assignment and did it well. I also wish I had started my presentation project a little sooner so I could put more time into it . I am a procrastinator so I tend to do things last minute , however I wish I would have started it as soon as it was assigned . If I would have done it as soon as it was assigned I would have been able to go more in depth on the topics and really been able to comprehend the subject better .  I think studying is a very important part of learning and it’s something I simply didn’t do with this chapter and I wish I had because it was such an interesting chapter . Learning about how different cultures get effected by different things is so interesting to me . I personally love watching utopian and ditopian shows because I love seeing different type of cultures of futuristic cultures or even just regular cultures be effected by anything, to things as small as the food you eat to the clothes you wear to where you live who you hang out with who you look for in a partner etc . I did also really like that this project wasn’t very time consuming . A lot of people our age have jobs assignments, plus personal life stuff to deal with where we don’t wanna spend days doing assignments. I do wish I spent a bit more time reading into this project because it’s a subject I like but i am glad there wasn’t too much more work otherwise I would have been overwhelmed and discouraged to not do it .  I get anxious very easily and having to do a lot of homework overwhelms me so it’s good to know that I have a class that gives me fair amount of work in things I like . I think an important part of this project was getting in groups . It really helps listen to how other people gather information and how they interpret it . Also groups help establish teamwork which helps get work down alot easier , and you get to meet good people along the way . This has been one of my favorite classes to work on projects because I genuinely feel like I learn useful and interesting information about things like different cultures and how it effects us today rather than alot of stuff we used in high school that will probably never be used again. This presentation was an amazing assignment and great learning experience in my opinion and I loved learning about different cultures and there way of being !
