Reflection - Second presentation
This blog is based on the presentations of Group 1 2 and 3.
Group 2 was the first to present, they talked about Education during
the pandemic and funding Healthcare. The presentation started with an
interview, I really liked it, it touched on very important points and the questions
were very well formulated. The slide where the interview was had a small text box
indicating the timestamps in the video, which was very well thought. After
this, they talked about Xavier Becerra, he is a secretary of healthcare. The video
about Xavier really showed his beliefs and where he stands, it was also an
interview and I feel like it was very informative. I agree with the top
priorities of health and human services that were mentioned, and I also liked
how Mr. Becerra had a good and formulated answer for every question. I’m glad
that he found COVID-19 a serious topic, unlike some other important people. He
talked about free insurance which I personally think is a great idea; it does
come with its downside but I feel like overall, it will benefit all of us. I
loved this presentation; this group knew what they were talking about and prepared
their questions really well. Everything was easy to understand. I just wish
that in some of their slides, there would have been fewer words to make it look
not so cramped. I loved the visuals, the pictures they used were very
eye-catching.
Then, Group 3 presented, they talked about Education and Health
Care. It was mentioned that the USA had the best surveyed education system on
the globe, but in reality, students in the Us are consistently scoring lower in
math and science than any other country. I found shocking that the reason behind
this is because the government spending on education has failed to keep up with
inflation. Even though, compared to other countries, the United States spends
more money on education, American high schoolers still fall behind. I really
liked how the presenter said, “It's not about how much money a country spends
on education, but how they spent it.” They have to invest in the quality of
teaching. I found interesting the responses an educational researcher got after
interviewing 400 foreign students. They said that back in their home country,
being good in mathematics is very important but in the US not so much. It’s common
for students to put more emphasis on being an athlete here in the US, but back
in their home countries, it isn’t as important. The presenter also talked about
free college. She mentioned that some countries require to pay for the ‘free’
education by military service or other ways, and in most of these countries,
the tax pay is way higher. I learned a lot from this presentation, now I know
that the pandemic has made a lot of people fall behind in class, people from
low-income families and black people were affected the most. I love how they
talked about the history on laws of education. I found it very interesting that
the oldest public school in America offered free education for boys (rich or
poor) and girls had to attend private school from home. Now, healthcare, the slide
explaining it was concise, there wasn’t a lot of text, and all the questions were
answered really neatly so it made it very easy to understand and to follow when
the person was presenting.
Lastly, group 1 presented. I’m part of this group. Our topics were
Racial Divide in school and the Workplace. I feel like we did a good job at it, our slides were colorful and eye-catching. There was a lot of text for a few of our slides but I think that the people presenting did a good job of not only reading it off the slide but adding more information and adding some examples so everyone could remember what they were saying. It was very informative for me and I definitely learned a lot from it. The videos were on point and not too long, and I feel like the videos were a great way to make everyone pay attention a little bit more. Personally, I researched a lot and had to read a lot which made me learn new stuff, I love this class because it makes me actually learn the information by reading it and not just copy and pasting it.
Absolutely excellent post!!
