Reflection - Second presentation

This blog is based on the presentations of Group 1 2 and 3. Group 2 was the first to present, they talked about Education during the pandemic and funding Healthcare. The presentation started with an interview, I really liked it, it touched on very important points and the questions were very well formulated. The slide where the interview was had a small text box indicating the timestamps in the video, which was very well thought. After this, they talked about Xavier Becerra, he is a secretary of healthcare. The video about Xavier really showed his beliefs and where he stands, it was also an interview and I feel like it was very informative. I agree with the top priorities of health and human services that were mentioned, and I also liked how Mr. Becerra had a good and formulated answer for every question. I’m glad that he found COVID-19 a serious topic, unlike some other important people. He talked about free insurance which I personally think is a great idea; it does come with its

When ending the last presentation my group and I had we knew we had another one coming soon, though we knew our professor would prepare us, so we weren’t so worried. Our new project included multiple parts to it and was very detailed. This project was a theme project. We were assigned 2 topics and we had to break it up and find the most valuable information that we thought was important for our class to learn. Our two topics were Racial Divide and The Economy. I was excited about these topics because it we knew a bit about, so it made a bit easier.                I decided to be in the side of economy just because I wanted to learn more about it. I also helped with ma

Presentations pt.2

Recently in my speech class we did another presentation. The class is divided in three groups and in the last round of presentations we presented in order, Group 1 first and finishing off with Group 3. For this presentation we went backwards. We started off with Group 3 and finished with Group 1.  We are switching the order in which we present with every presentation. I really enjoy this method because since I am in Group 1 we always have to go first, instead this method our Professor is working helps us be either first or last. It is something different for each round of presentations. Group 2 however, will always go second, whether we start with Group 1 or Group 3.  The topics were on Racial Divides, Economy, Law and Order Protests/Rallies, Immigration, Education and Healthcare.  Each group chose their topics and we were all given a few days in order to present our Powerpoint. One thing I love about these presentations is that they are very dynamic. It is not your basic Powerpoint wi

Alejandra Saenz (1000 words) SPC1017-2227-4848 October 27 th ,2022 Reflection The second blog of the semester is going to be based on the three presentations given by each group based on chapters one through fourteen. Each group was given a theme, and our group was given racial divides and listening. As a group, we decided it was best to use our WhatsApp group chat as a method of communication. In order for us to work efficiently we used Google slides, where we could all edit and input our information individually without hassle. To make our presentation unique we added our own images and videos that correlated with our topic. For my slide, I chose racial divides as my theme to connect it to chapter six. Chapter six is about listening and understanding which I used to correlate the abolition of slavery. I was able to find a video that represented exactly the racial divides going on today in the world. We weren’t able to show the full video since it was an hour long, but the mes

Daniela Ponce  This time my group was the last group to present and the waiting make me very nervous but I enjoyed listening to everyone's presentations. Each group had two days to present. My group theme was economy and racial divides linked to chapters 1, 2, 6, 7, and 8. We really enjoyed sharing ideas and helping each other in the group. Alejandra and I did chapter 6. We learned that      We tend to listen passively when we aren’t really interested or when we are multi-tasking.      There are different ways of listening and process of approaching.      We tend to assign a sort of worth to the conversation. If it’s not worth much to us we tend to not genuinely listen to the person.      The chapter talks about listening strategies      Examples of effective and ineffective speech critiques In chapter 6 we also see that most people tend to have anxiety during a conversation. Research found that social media has been found to be good source where humans can communicate and li

Reflections #2- Ajah Yearwood

Recently, my speech class did more presentations that we had to write this blog post about! This time we made presentations and brochures on Racial Divides, Economy, Law and Order Protests/Rallies, Immigration, Education, and Healthcare. Each group had two to three days to present their projects along with a chapter review and a submission of two brochures for each of their topics. In my case, another group member and I did our brochures, and we all worked together to split the chapters. We were assigned to chapters one, two, six, seven, and eight and our professor complimented it, saving it for a reference for other classes. This time we began with group three since last time group one went first. This time their topics were Education in the pandemic and funding education. Noelia had said that the USA falls behind in grades compared to other countries but Professor Sinkoff disagreed, and they had a brief conversation about it. Afterwards, a fellow student named Noelia clarified that

During speech class these past few weeks, we had to read three chapters and make a powerpoint on theme. Each group had their own chapter who then split it up into smaller parts! I personally did race and gender roles, your race being biological characteristics and gender roles being what you identify as despite your sex. During these presentations, we mostly learned about communication in groups, physical and mental characteristics, and leadership.           In one half of group one’s presentation, we learned about characteristics. Characteristics are features of you that determine what you act like and look like. Even though this is what they are, many people have issues with mixing up visual characteristics with trait characteristics. An example of this, is your sex being male but your gender being female! Many people from older generations or specific cultures are not as used to this idea, a lot of them being transphobic or homophobic. Of course this is not the case for

For our first class assignment we were divided in three groups and each group was assigned a chapter that we went over in class. In each chapter there was sections and each person in the group had to choose a section. Once the section was chosen, the group leader created a google drive powerpoint where we all had to do 3 slides talking about our section. The chapters that we were covering were, chapter 3, Intercultural Communication. Chapter 9, Communicating in Groups and Chapter 10, Group Leadership and Problem Solving. Personally, when it comes to groups projects and presentations I get pretty timid and I struggle with being able to be comfortable when presenting to my peers. I understand it is a battle many fight with but I am hoping that by assignments like these it will help us to overcome our shyness and anxiety when it comes to presenting. With these presentations I did not see someone be overcome with nerves, it was actually the opposite, each person in each group was able to p

My Presentation Experience

Starting my fall semester as usual I am taking a speech course with professor Sinkoff who I have taken her class before. I am retaking this class for the third time (something which I am not ashamed) and I have made such an improvement from when I last took it 2 years ago. From the way I would make my PowerPoints and the way I spoke. I was scared to retake this class seeing as I used to be TERRIFIED of public speaking, but I took what I learned through the years to prepare for my 1 st presentation of the fall semester.   What makes the presentations a little easier is having our professor tells us what we are presenting and then we are in charge to determine how to make our PowerPoint. Our 1 st presentation was a chapter presentation where the professor would assign us a group and based on that group it determined the chapter we would present. Our group was chapter 3 which was about Intercultural communication. And what intercultural communication is the interactions that happen betw

Calebs Chapter review

In my group (group 1) , we spoke and presented about intercultural communications. As a group we each had 3 slides to do and presented accordingly . That was chapter 3. I really enjoyed how everyone gave there presentations . Everyone was able to speak upon the power point but also wasn’t word for word what was on the power point. It was refreshing because they didn’t sound like robots. I wish I would have included a video myself because everyone else who included a videos added to the presentation so much more. We live in a very technological world that allows people to have this type of access to videos. In this chapter we discussed , intercultural communications , which talks about different type of cultures and there views and ideas . One of the first topics we discussed was how your background can affect your perspective and viewing of things . An example I see in my own personal life is living in Miami with mostly Cubans including myself . There perspectives are changed from here
